In accordance with the European directive 2008/99/EC and the amended law of March 12, 2012, relating to waste management, the producer of products may be subject to the extended producer responsibility scheme. The producer of products is, depending on the case, the manufacturer, distributor, or importer of the product – i.e., potentially many stakeholders of the Luxembourgish economy. This scheme establishes the obligation for the producer of products to assume financial and/or organizational responsibility for the prevention, reuse, preparation for reutilization and management of the waste resulting from the products they have placed on the market and also includes aspects related to information, awareness, and product design.
